Better washrooms drive better business: Tork invites all to join movement to transform public washrooms

01.05.2026

Tork, an Essity brand and the global leader in professional hygiene, today announced the next step in its journey to advancing inclusive hygiene by exploring and eliminating barriers that prevent people from meeting their hygiene needs in public washrooms. Starting today, Tork is opening the door to everyone – from industry experts to cleaning professionals and washroom users – to join the movement to improve public washrooms and pursue better hygiene for all.

The need is clear. Half of people face hygiene barriers in public washrooms1, yet only 1 in 5 washrooms meet basic cleanliness expectations, creating a critical gap. As a result, over half take action that directly impacts business reputation and revenue. This includes spending less, leaving early, or avoiding the space entirely. Tork is actively addressing this critical issue that impacts both public health and business performance.

Tork is offering several ways to get involved in enabling better hygiene for all. Through the newly launched inclusive hygiene online resource hub, industry professionals – such as business leaders, facility managers, cleaners, designers, and more – now have one-stop access to practical resources, best practices, research, and guidance to help them deliver public washrooms that meet the hygiene needs of as many people as possible. The site also welcomes everyone to submit feedback, ideas, and suggestions to inform future solutions.

Tork is also expanding its formal network of industry experts who can inform and accelerate innovation in hygiene solutions for public washrooms. Tork are launching the “Global expert network for Better Hygiene for All," comprised of facility managers, cleaning professionals, architects, advocates and hygiene specialists working collectively to improve public washrooms. Interested parties can learn more and apply on the website. The brand’s push for inclusive hygiene in public washrooms recognises that the environment, not the capabilities of users, creates barriers to hygiene and wellbeing.

“Inclusive hygiene in the washroom boosts employee experience, customer satisfaction, and business reputation and revenue,” said Jenny Logenius, Global Brand Manager Professional Hygiene at Essity. “Individuals tell us it brings dignity, comfort, and confidence for themselves and their loved ones. Across the board, we’ve heard people want more – more guidance on best practices, more ways to share feedback, and more solutions that support better hygiene for all. We’re grateful for the momentum and excited to welcome even more voices to help drive meaningful change.”
